So, that was 2013 …
It’s been a tradition in my house at New Year’s to take a good, long look at the year we’ve just finished – the highlights and the low – as a way of saying farewell to the past twelve months, before jumping into the next twelve. As an extension of that, I’ve also started looking at my images over the past year in the same way.
As one of my goals for 2014 is to take a more “glass is half full” approach to everything, I’ve assembled my favourite images from 2013 in the preceding slide show as a way of focusing on only the good of the past year. It feels like a good way to kick off a new year and part with the outgoing one on the very best of terms.
We all have plans. We all set targets, goals or milestones for ourselves. Regardless of what we don’t succeed at, it’s important to focus on what we did achieve, however much those achievements did or did not live up to our expectations. Learn from the negative but always celebrate the positive. As the business writer, Tom Peters, wrote:
“Celebrate what you want to see more of.”
What do I want to see more of in the new year? Happy clients, as always, is first on my list. I had the great pleasure of working with some fantastic families and crazy-in-love couples this past year, not to mention a whole host of photogenic individuals (oh, before you can say “but I’m not photogenic” … everyone is when they work with the right photographer. *nudge, nudge, wink, wink*).
I also have some great personal plans for my photography, including a milestone or two (more on that in a few months) and entering more print competitions in more countries. It helps me stay focused and always improving, which ultimately benefits my clients.
So, farewell to 2013! You were what you were and I’m grateful for all the good you brought me. Here’s hoping that 2014 is even better.
Cheers and Happy New Year!
