Mettle

What a great thing to wake up to!

Last night, in Winnipeg, MB, the Professional Photographers of Canada held their annual awards banquet, honouring the outstanding achievements of pro photographers coast-to-coast. Some of the most memorable achievements come out of the national image salon – a competition between some of the best photographers in the country.

This morning, the press release was sitting in my inbox: Best in Class in the Figure Study class … with my name on it! Considering the tremendous talent that submitted to the competition this year, there’s an extra little spring in my step today.

Best in Class Award: Figure Study

Special thanks to Jordan for all the hard work he did prior to this shoot (that’s right, those abs are the real deal). It’s not often that I enter commissioned work into competitions but I’m glad I did this time. Very glad.

Here are the official details:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

2014 PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS OF CANADA NATIONAL IMAGE SALON April 28, 2014

Winnipeg, MB – The 2014 National Image Salon of the Professional Photographers of Canada was exhibited this week during the Canadian Imaging Conference, the annual conference of the PPOC in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Jay Terry, CPA LPPO , a professional photographer from London, ON won the Best in Class award for the image ‘Mettle’ in the Figure Study class. Jay was also one of the Finalists for the prestigious ‘Portrait Photographer of the Year’ Award.

Jay had 4 images accepted and exhibited in the National Image Salon, judged prior to the conference by a panel of master photographers from across Canada. Acceptance into the salon is an indication of the makers’ ability to produce outstanding images for their clientele. It also earns the maker merits toward several designations offered to PPOC members, including the prestigious Craftsman of Photographic Arts and Master of Photographic Arts.

The competition features entries from across Canada in twenty-one different classes, including press, portrait, architecture and fashion.

Kent Wong, Chair of the National Exhibition Committee, said: “We were thrilled to see so many inspiring entries in the competition this year. The salon images clearly demonstrate the exceptional skill and quality that professionals bring to the medium of photography.”
